This coffee comes from the renowned Guji region of southern Ethiopia and is produced by members of the Kalacha Gudina Cooperative, one of the area’s longest-standing farmer organizations. Founded in the 1990s, the cooperative is now part of the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, which supports thousands of smallholder farmers across the region.
Grown at high elevations in Guji’s lush, forested landscape, this coffee showcases the vibrant character that has made the region famous. Compared to neighboring regions, Guji coffees are often known for their rich fruit sweetness, lively acidity, and jam-like complexity.
The coffee is cultivated on small family farms where coffee trees grow among native vegetation and food crops. During harvest, ripe cherries are handpicked and delivered to the cooperative’s washing station. After careful sorting, the cherries are depulped, fermented overnight, washed, and dried on raised beds for approximately two weeks. This meticulous washed process helps create a clean, expressive cup that highlights the coffee’s bright fruit character and elegant floral qualities.
